Daniel McNamara

DPhil Researcher

Department of Engineering Science, Oxford University,
Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3PJ, United Kingdom

Biography

Daniel graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2021 with an MEng in Civil Engineering. He has significant industrial experience having worked with two tier 1 contracting organisations, Skanska and Sir Robert McAlpine, on two Battersea regeneration projects. These included the iconic Phase 2 Battersea Power Station redevelopment where he had particular involvement with the complex ground works for the £2bn project. Recently he has worked with Keltbray Piling on the Silvertown Crossing development where he became involved with practical aspects of using polymer support fluids during bored piling in the Lambeth Group and Thanet Sands.
Daniel is now undertaking doctoral research supervised by Dr Brian Sheil and Prof Stephan Jefferis, in collaboration with Arup. The focus of the DPhil will be on the use of polymer support fluids for piles and diaphragm walls. As the use of polymer support fluids becomes more mainstream, as a practical alternative to bentonite, the research will aim to provide specifications and procedures for use by the construction industry.
