Biography
Jack graduated from the University of Oxford with a first class MEng degree in Engineering Science in 2017. He was awarded the 2017 prize for the best overall fourth year project in the Department of Engineering Science and the 2017 British Geotechnical Association MSc/MEng Dissertation Prize. After spending a year working for Mott MacDonald as a graduate civil engineer, Jack joined the Civil Engineering Research group as DPhil student in 2018, working with Dr. Brian Sheil and funded through the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Jack’s research focuses on the development and implementation of methods for instrumenting and monitoring soil-structure interaction during underground construction. A particular aspect of this is the development of fibre optic sensors for the measurement of soil-structure contract stresses in the field.
